2025 Wealth Migration: The Lure of Europe for High Net-Worth Individuals

Why the World’s Rich Are Flocking to Europe in 2025

Europe Emerges as Top Destination in Global Wealth Migration: Europe is gaining traction as a premier relocation destination for high-net-worth individuals, driven by transforming tax environments, geopolitical shifts, and enticing visa packages. Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and Greece are emerging as primary growth markets.

Urban Revival: A resurgence of urban living is seeing cities like Madrid, Lisbon, and Milan witness increasing demand, with the appeal of privacy, a vibrant culture, and convenience. Nearly half of all relocators currently favor urban environments.

Taxes, Visas and Mobility: Aspects such as tax regulations, visa programs, and the rise of remote work significantly influence relocation decisions. In particular, tax rules and the ‘Golden Visa’ program are major factors, with a majority of high-net-worth individuals adopting remote work.

Macro Tailwinds: The conducive macroeconomic environment in Europe is a significant magnet for wealth migration. Countries like Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and Greece are at the forefront with optimistic GDP growth forecasts and increments in property prices.

Important statistics to note include that politics, quality of life, and governance are pushing investors and families towards European cities. 59% of respondents regard taxes as a decisive factor for relocation. Half of respondents aim to apply for a European visa within five years. 63% of HNWIs are now working remotely and 71% stated that access to superfast broadband will influence their location decision. The European Central Bank has made eight interest rate cuts.

As analysed by Mark Harvey, Head of International Residential at Knight Frank, and Kate Everett-Allen, Knight Frank’s Head of European Residential Research, the migration of wealth to Europe is a multifaceted trajectory, shaped by a myriad of factors both micro and macro in nature.
